Welcome to Copenhagen Harbour Jazz

Copenhagen Harbour Jazz festival 16.-18. sep. 2011

Welcome to Copenhagen Harbour Jazz Festival 2011

CHJ program is ready with the 4. festival.
We have mixed a program with the good old friends and bands, some playing for the first time at CHJ Festival. All in all 16 events at 3 venues. 40 hours of good traditional swinging classic jazz.
Day tickets makes it possible to tour the venues and listen to wonderful, well played jazz. You can enjoy it all with a day ticket!
News for 2011 is ’the secret guest’, whomight turn up at the venues and ’sit in’ with the bands.
So tour our venues, meet ’the secret guest’, and make a weekend full of swinging jazz. Enjoy!

A warm thank you to our loyal volonteer staff for the large effort and to our sponsors and advertisers, without you and your goodwill it would never be possible.

JAZZ FEVER
I got bitten by the jazz bug when I was only seven years old! I saw a big band play in a pavilion by the beach in a seaside town in England. I could not take my eyes off the drum set, and when the drummer played a solo and threw the sticks up in the air at the same time, I was amazed.
’I want to do that!’ I thought to myself and since the age of about 15 I have played a lot of jazz in many bands with exotic names like ’The Dreamland Syncopators’ and ’Cardinal Woolsey and his Dirty Habits’.
The feeling you get when you form a jazz group and play the music you love, is happiness – pure happiness, and you pass that happiness out to the audience. My old friend Jesper Klein, once wrote ’Showbizz is nobizz without an audience!’ It’s the same with jazz music. I love to see a lot of different bands play and to welcome the energy they send out to the crowds of people.
I am looking forward to Copenhagen Harbour Jazz Festival 2011, because I love Nyhavn, to play jazz, to listen, clap, laugh, jam, fool around and maybe drink a beer or two.
Long live jazz. See you all soon!!

Copenhagen has for many years, since the 1950s, been the hotbed of some of the best classic and traditional jazz in the world – made famous by jazz musicians from all over the world.

Copenhagen Harbour Jazz is founded as an association, with a base in Copenhagen, and its original name is:

‘Foreningen Copenhagen Harbour Jazz anno 2007’

Copenhagen Harbour Jazz is founded in order to arrange classic jazz music at venues on and around Copenhagen Harbour, as well as to preserve the knowledge of and the interest in classic jazz music.

Copenhagen Harbour Jazz will take place at larger or smaller venues near Copenhagen Harbour, all with easy access, so the audience can reach them either by Harbour Boat or by walking from place to place.

Copenhagen Harbour Jazz wants to be a smaller festival for classic jazz, staying in the same area which means easy access for a Danish and foreign audience fond of this jazz style and way of life.

Since Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark, we thought there ought to be room for this kind of multiplicity too, in the city of this size.
